Eric Cowan - 2017 Youth of the Year
Eric Cowan has been named the 2017 Youth of the Year, one of the highest honors a Boys & Girls Club member can receive. As BGCA’s premier youth recognition program, Youth of the Year recognizes outstanding contributions to a member’s family, school, community and Boys & Girls Club, as well as overcoming personal challenges and obstacles. The Youth of the Year program encourages Club members to reach their full potential by achieving academic success, leading healthy lifestyles and contributing to their communities. Youth of the Year honorees are shining examples and living proof that great futures start at Boys & Girls Clubs.
Eric is a member of the Stalnaker Club and attends Central High School where he maintains a 4.65 GPA while participating in varsity baseball, bowling, and serves as Editor-in-Chief of the school’s magazine. At the Stalnaker Club he is the President of Keystone Club, a leadership group that focuses on service to others, academic success, and career preparation. Cowan also finds time in his busy schedule to give back to his community and has participated in the following volunteer projects; DCO Cleanup, Friends against Hunger, and Salvation Army Bell Ringing. Eric has already set some high goals for his great future. He plans on using his math and critical thinking skills to become an actuary. Also, as the Youth of the Year, Eric was awarded a $12,000 College Scholarship funded by the BGC Partners in Education (former Boys & Girls Club of Springfield Auxiliary).
